Prashant Tamang, Darjeeling-based Indian singer and winner of Indian Idol season 3 arrived on Friday morning, Dimapur spreading an air of excitement among the passengers in the normally monotonous atmosphere of the railway station with his presence and arousing a feeling of curiosity to have a glimpse of Sony Entertainment’s most sought after Star.
Prashant Tamang, the first contestant of Nepalese origin to win the Indian Idol and also the first from the Indian police force to win the same, received a heart rending welcome from the denizens of Dimapur on Friday.
In honour of the Idol, the Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) organized an informal felicitation programme at Rotary Club Dimapur attended by hundreds of people from the Nepali community as well as others.
Terming northeast region as a land of music lovers, Tamang expressed his ‘earnest desire’ to perform the concert scheduled on Saturday especially at Dimapur during a press conference after the informal programme.
Pointing out the positive factor, Prashant called upon the youth from the region to showcase their talents by singing up for music competitions such as Indian Idol and Saregama, wherein their talents will be discovered without biasness by true professionals in the music industry.
On being asked about his present celebrity status, Tamang responded “life of a celebrity is not easy and we have to give away our privacy, but through the love of the public I am where I am today.” On marriage, the Indian Idol says “abhi time hain, girlfriend abhi nahin hain mera..”
Prashant Tamang will perform live on Saturday at DDSC stadium with MC Konyak, Minister of Forest, Environment, Ecology, Wildlife and Excise as the chief guest and H.K Khulu, Commissioner as the guest of honour.
The show being sponsored by Breeze restaurant and Basu Damani, treasurer and spokesman, BJP Nagaland is also being held in aid of construction for Gorkha cultural hall Nepali Gaon, relief for flood victims and social activities of the Gorkhas.
