Mounting pressure to implement the Education Policy, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) has called a two-day office picketing on November 6 and 7 in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills areas of Meghalaya. The office picketing will cover both State and Central Government offices in Khasi Hills. However, educational institutions have been exempted. HNYF President GH Kharshanlor said the two-day strike was called after the state government continued to delay to the implementation of the new Education Policy. “It is matter of shame for the State that even after 36 years of attaining its statehood; it is still struggling to have an Education Policy in place. This clearly shows on the lack of interest of our legislators for the overall growth of the State,” Kharshanlor said. Earlier, state Higher and Technical Education Minister Manas Chaudhuri said it would be implemented at the earliest for the benefits of the students and academicians. He said the new State Education Policy would come into effect from the 2009 academic session.
