Goa education minister Atanasio Monserratte's son Rohit, 21, has been remanded to three days police custody in connection with a case of rape of a German minor girl. Earlier on Tuesday, Rohit, against whom the 14-year-old's mother lodged a police complaint on October 2, gave himself up before Calangute police station in-charge Tushar Vernekar. "Rohit was placed under arrest at 3.10pm, as we have found variance in his statement on November 1 and today," SP (North) Bosco George said. Rohit, dressed in blue jeans and black shirt, arrived at the Calangute police station around 12.40pm, accompanied by his father and lawyer. Rohit looked calm when he was taken into custody. "My son is innocent and he is paying the price because I am a politician," Monserratte told reporters outside the Calangute police station. The minister is also booked for abetment of the crime. The police raided Babush's residences in Miramar and Taliegao on Monday after Rohit failed to appear before them. On Monday night, Monserratte wrote to cops, seeking time till Tuesday for producing his son before them. The teenager, who was earlier reluctant to get herself medically examined and depose before court, appeared before a magistrate last Saturday and also got her medically examined by Goa Medical College doctors on Sunday.
