16 held in abduction case

Dimapur Police and IRB personnel on Thursday arrested fourteen persons, suspected to be Kuki National Front (KNF) activists, during simultaneous raids conducted at two places in Dimapur, and rescued one driver earlier abducted by the suspected activists. Additional SP, VZ Angami who led the raids said ten persons including a lady were arrested from one hideout while remaining four persons were arrested from another place. Police recovered eight mobile handset, one 7.65 pistol with five rounds, one .9mm pistol with eight live rounds and some documents from their possession. Police said the fourteen arrested were part of the same gang, which had earlier abducted three drivers belonging to FCI Manipur. While two drivers were released after they reportedly paid Rs.8000 to the abductors, the other driver identified as one Asem Angou (51), a resident of Lambia Challou, Imphal East, who was detained due to non-payment of ransom, was rescued by police today. The fourteen arrested have been identified as Md. Abdul Subad, Roger Singh, Yaima Singh and wife Melody Mizo, Simon Singh, Shanti Singh, Monatum Singh, Sanjeev Meitei, Chinglen Meitei, Boycha Singh, Piyo Singh, Prem Humar Singh, Momo Kom and Nanao Singh.
