A two-day 6th PLANNER (Promotion of Library Automation and Networking in North East Region) convention organized by Nagaland University (NU) in collaboration with INFLIBNET (Information and Library Networking Centre), Ahmedabad culminated Friday at School of Engineering Technology and Management (SETAM), NU campus, Dimapur. Speaking at the convention, NU vice chancellor, Prof. K Kannan said in the 21st century, there was too much information flood that teacher's role has become facilitator for students while library has become facilitator for teachers and students. "No single library can afford to have all relevant books. Hence library needs to be automated and networked with other libraries," Prof Kannan said. He lamented that with flood of information teachers were not being able to keep pace with ideas and gives up soon, adding "today we are bereft of inspiring teachers." Pointing out "today an industry showcases its product through mall" vice chancellor said "if education has become an industry, so do library has to become an industry." He was of the view that teachers need to introspect with regard to their own teaching and confront held beliefs and attitudes while evaluate results. Earlier, National Informatics Centre (NIC), deputy director, M Moni, who graced the convention as guest of honour delivered a key note address. Altogether 160 participants from all over the country, including officials from UGB, Bangladesh attended the convention.
