Kyongs celebrate Tokhu Emong

Post harvest and the biggest festival of Kyong community – Tokhu Emong was celebrated with enthusiasm and fervor at different place in the state At Dimapur Tokhu Emong was celebrated at Kushiabill playground, east Dimapur with Azheto Zhimomi MLA, Nagaland as chief guest and Er. Echongbemo Humtsoe as guest of honour. In his speech, chief guest wished the people of Lotha community on their festivity. “Lothas being a major tribe in Nagaland should take more roles in building the political, socio and cultural set in the Naga society. He also donated Rs.1 lakh to the community on the auspicious feast. He thanked the community for extending help given during election and has asked for cooperation in developing the area. Earlier the programme started with an invocation prayer by Zubemo Ezung associate pastor, welcome song by Khothungo Kikon, youth director, followed by welcome speech from chairman of the Hoho committee. R.V Ngullie briefed the gathering about the importance and meaning of the day. While describing the meaning of Tokhu Emong he stated that, “Tokhu Emong is celebrated after the completion of the year’s harvest and the granaries full, a time for the people to take a respite from the toils, sweat and settle down to enjoy the fruits of one’s hard labour”. He further encouraged the community to take some concrete step in binding the community. The programme also witnessed traditional worship practiced by forefathers on how to make fire without using technologies presented by K. Ntonsi Ngullie and his group. Other important highlights of the programme were Tokhu Emong dance, traditional old song, modern Lotha song; traditional modeling from Abeni Humtsoe and group, prayer of blessing for the community was pronounced by C. Yanthan Pastor. The programme concluded with vote of thanks from Renthunglo Shitiri and C. Yanpothung Yanthan, followed by a Tokhu feast. Meanwhile Tokhu Emong was also celebrated at Dimapur District Sports Council ground, Dimapur with Y.C. Ovung, Dimapur Lotha Hoho Chairman as the main resource person. He exhorted the Lothas to give importance to the culture and urged the Lothas to be united. The programme was chaired by E. Lotha, invocation was pronounced by Zanao Mozhui and benediction by Merebeni. Tokhu Emong was also celebrated across the border at Bor-Lingri Karbianglong, Assam with fervor and enthusiasm. TUENSANG: Kyong Ekhong Tuensang celebrated Tokhu Emong, the largest festival of Lotha community with pomp and gaiety Friday here at Tuensang with deputy commissioner Tuensang Y.L.Jami, as chief guest. He spoke on the need for unity and forgiveness in the spirit of Thokhu Emong. Other highlights of the festival were folk song by Lotha Eloe Okho Tuensang and Lumka and his company from Wokha presented Lotha songs, while, ADC Planning Mhonsao, spoke on the significance of the Tokhu Emong and its importance. GPRN/NSCN Lotha region Along with the rest of the Lothas, the GPRN/NSCN Lotha Region celebrated Tokhu Emong at Khehoi designated camp with great joy and thanksgiving. Traditional Lotha pleasantries were exchanged and folk songs presented. The celebration also included a solemn reiteration from the members present to steadfastly stand for unification of all Nagas to end long pending Indo-Naga political issue. A hearty feast prepared by organizing committee drew the celebration to a close.
