VDBs, SBI meet on MoU

An awareness meeting between village development boards (VDB) and officials of state bank of India was held Tuesday in connection with memorandum of understanding signed between SBI and government of Nagaland for micro financing to all VDBs of Nagaland. Speaking as chief guest Deputy Commissioner Dimapur Moangwati Aier lauded SBI for the achievements on core banking and MoU which was signed on October 21. DC said it was an important day for all 198 VDBs of Dimapur present at the meeting who could avail the opportunities. However, he remarked, VDBs in Nagaland were weak in loan recovery and therefore he urged the VDBs to recover loans. Highlighting the role of VDB, DC said after the establishment of first VDB in Nagaland in 1976 at Phek by former chief secretary, Gokhale, VDBs had come a long way and “have progressed in such a way that the VDBs of Nagaland can be taken as a great example for VDBs all over the country and should continue to do so” The deputy commissioner on behalf of all VDBs appealed regional bank AGM and chief manager of SBI to set up branches in Nuiland and Kuhuboto for which land and security would be provided by district administration. He also requested that the Medziphema SBI branch which operates from Dimapur should have its own branch in Medziphema. Further he congratulated the SBI and appreciated NABARD for its contribution to start the pilot project of micro financing in Nagaland. Others who spoke at the programme included S. Sengupta, LDM,RO Dimapur; S.C. Sen, AGM, RO Dimapur; S.H.Leo, CM(Rural),RO, Dimapur; Hilo Semp, Project Director, DRDA, Dimapur; K.Panda, DGM, NABARD. Vote of thanks was proposed by Girish Sharma, manager (NPA), RO, Dimapur.
