About 2,000 children across all the North Eastern states participated in the Children's Day programme organised by Bharti Airtel NESA. The underlying theme of the programme this year was 'Peace for a Better Tomorrow.' The main focus of the day's programme was on children belonging to below poverty line families and underprivileged sections of the community. Several educational institutions and NGOs joined hands with Airtel to make this programme a great success. In Dimapur Airtel celebrated children's day in tune with the company's pledge to celebrate the day with the unfortunate ones at Wondang Ki orphanage, Dimapur run by a dedicated christian family. Zonal Sales Manager Dimapur in his address stated that the company chose 'Wondang Ki' orphanage as it caters the quality need of the children and tries to create an environment where all round development especially education is given priority. Meanwhile drawing competitions were also held at Zhimomi Tele communication ARC, Circular Road, Dimapur. In Shillong, the children from two orphanages participated in the Children's Day programme organised by Airtel. Ba Khraw, Shillong's renowned cartoonist & painter, gave away the prizes to the winners of the competitions. In Itanagar, quiz and art competitions were held at Boum Kakir Mission School and Airtel Relationship Centre in Itanagar. Mr. B.L. Sharma, Principal, Boum Kakir School gave away the prizes. Similar programmes were conducted throughout the day in Imphal, Agartala, Lunglei, Aizawl, Jorhat, Silchar and many other centres in the region. Overwhelmed by the response of the children and their parents, Mr. Sudipto Chowdhury, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Airtel NESA, said, "We feel humble by seeing the love and goodwill of the people. We are confident that peace will prevail over violence. Bharti Airtel will contribute all its might in ensuring that our children get the best from us and they become the pillars on which a strong and prosperous nation is built."
