State team for SACOSAN-III

Eighteen delegates from Nagaland comprising of senior PHED officials, representatives from Municipal Councils of Kohima and Dimapur, Mokokchung town, the Youth Net, Phom Baptist Christian Association, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council and one NGP awardee each from districts of Wokha, Kohima and Dimapur are leaving for New Delhi on Monday to attend the Third South Asian Conference on Sanitation (SACOSAN-III) scheduled from November 18 - 21. Executive director, CDDU (PHED), Kevisekho Kruse in a press release said the high powered ministerial level conferences are held in South Asian Region with objective to develop a regional agenda on sanitation. Secretary, PHE Department, Zhaleo Rio will lead the State delegation to the conference which will be held on the theme ‘Sanitation for Dignity and Health.’ In addition to Ministerial level delegation from 8 SAARC countries, delegates from 15 observer countries, various national and international experts, representatives from UN Agencies and various bilateral developmental cooperation agencies, NGOs, Civil society, State Governments, R&D institutions and PRIs are expected to participate in SACOSAN-III. “This year’s Conference has a special significance as 2008 has been declared as the International year of Sanitation by the United Nations and also in view of the fact that India aims to achieve full sanitation coverage in all rural villages in the country by 2012,” the release added.
