Chief minister Neiphiu Rio and the Nagaland State BJP have condemned Thursday’s serial bomb blasts in Assam. Condemning the blasts, the chief minister in a press statement said perpetrators of such mindless violence should be hunted down and brought to justice to instill confidence in the minds of the people. Rio also informed that in the aftermath of the Assam blasts, an emergency meeting of cabinet ministers, senior officers including chief secretary and DGP was held Thursday, which was chaired by the chief minister, to review the situation. The chief minister said the State government observed that, of late, the North East Region had witnessed an increasing trend of terror attacks, which claimed a number of lives besides creating chaos and anarchy in the region.“This should be a cause of serious concern, not just for the States of the NE Region but also for the Government of India. Effective mechanisms must be urgently put in place in order to combat terrorism and those who are holding the people to ransom using the unacceptable weapons of fear and panic,” Rio said. In a separate press statement, BJP Nagaland president Ato Yepthomi and spokesman Basu Damani such dastardly acts of terrorists would not serve any purpose except bringing misery to the lives and property of fellow human beings. Hitting out at the Assam Government for “complete failure” on the law and order front, the State BJP demanded the Central government to immediately impose President’ Rule.
