Security drill snag creates panic

A mock mortar shell that accidentally fell into a school compound at Lengrijan village during a drill by CRPF personnel at 150 CRPF Bn, Rangapahar transit camp, Dimapur, created panic among residents of the area here Friday. According to police, CRPF personnel were performing drill when a jawan of 145 CRPF miscalculated the distance of dropping a 2 inch mock mortar shell, which landed in the compound of St. Michael School, Friday around 7.30 a.m. The sweeper of the school who first discovered the shell alerted the school authority and soon the news spread like wildfire, sending residents of the locality into heightened sense of alarm and fear. On hearing the news, district administration officials, police, intelligence cell and bomb disposal squad also rushed to the spot. However, CRPF personnel arrived and explained about technical snag. Police said the shell was a mock one filled with sand and used during training.
