Nano on information highway

After dominating newspaper headlines for long, Nano, the yet-to-be-out small car from the Tata stable, is now driving fast and furious on the information highway. Be it number of searches or choice for bloggers' comments, Tata Nano, which has finally found an assembly-line abode in Gujarat, has become one of the hottest picks on the internet. Some bloggers are even attributing it the power to reverse the brain drain from Gujarat. An Ahmedabad-based engineer and blogger, Hitharth Pancholi, said professional discussion forums on the Web are excited by the employment opportunities promised in the state by the Nano project. "After browsing through the information, many of my friends who had gone to neighbouring states to earn better are willing to come back to work with the Tatas," he says. An index of Nano's strong run in cyberspace is the number of pages it turns up during internet searches. The keyword 'Tata Nano' on a prominent search engine yielded 61,50,000 results; in contrast, 'Hyundai i10 Kappa', which generated considerable enthusiasm among motoring aficionados, generated 2,09,000 results. And, to compare Nano's performance with Maruti cars, type 'Maruti Alto' on a search engine and hit 'send'; you will get 1,39,000 web pages to browse through. While many blogs and discussion forums featuring Nano shower Gujarat chief minister, Narendra Modi, and the chairman of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, with effusive praise others attempt to delineate the historic import of Nano.
