NCP hopeful for LS poll

A meeting for NCP northeast parliamentarians, legislators and state presidents was held at Shillong on October 25 under the chairmanship of former Manipur chief minister and chairman of Northeast NCP coordination committee Radha Binod Koijam, with national general secretary NCP Purno A. Sangma as chief guest. In a press note, Povotso Lohe president NCP Nagaland stated that agenda of the meeting discussed were on prospects of NCP in the region for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the problem of influx foreign nationals, inflow of illegal immigrants in the region and enable people to come on a common platform to discuss problems confronting the region. According to state NCP president, P.A. Sangma NCP general secretary addressing the meeting said “efforts are on to forge an alliance of non-Indian national congress parties of the northeast to fight the coming Lok Sabha elections”. He also emphasized the need to revive the defunct Northeast People’s Forum and said he held meetings with various regional parties in the northeast including AGP from Assam. The release further stated that NCP state unit in the region have been given freedom to decide on poll alliance on their own for the coming Lok Sabha poll, also added that NCP has good prospects in the next Lok Sabha elections. NCP president Nagaland also expressed hope that the DAN consensus candidate for the lone Lok Sabha from Nagaland under the leadership of Neiphiu Rio would emerge successfully in the forth coming poll. He expressed confidence and determination to build a strong NCP in Nagaland under the central leadership of NCP, with the support from the two NCP legislator of Nagaland including rank and file of NCP Nagaland state unit.
