164 Infantry Battalion Territorial Army (TA), Home and Hearth, NAGA on November 1 celebrated its third Raising Day. State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio conveying his greetings and best wishes to the commanding officer, colonel D A Patil and all ranks of the battalion said within a short span of about a year and a half, the battalion has carved a niche for itself, and that the troops were a role model for the youth of Nagaland. Addressing the officers and all ranks during the special “Sainik Sammelan,” chief minister said the unit has played an exemplary role in providing environmental security to fellow Nagas during the last elections, and their mere presence in all the districts was a source of inspiration for the local people, a defence release said. Rio also expressed gratitude for the efforts of the troops of the unit who planted a mammoth 5000 trees at different places as part of the aforestation drive in the state on World Environment Day. He further added that the various “Operation Sadbhavna” projects for the ex-servicemen and the students of the state would go a long way to influence the young and impressionable minds and help them forge a better and cordial relationship with the “mainstream.” “This will also give them a glimpse of career opportunities of peace and tranquility,” Rio said adding the medical camps and other assistances provided by the Army from time to time to the locals would help create an atmosphere of peace and trust.
