Governor, Rio condole VP Singh’s death

Governor K Sankaranarayanan and chief minister Neiphiu Rio have condoled the death of former Prime Minister VP Singh who passed away Thursday afternoon in New Delhi. “Despite being from a well to do family, he was always concerned for the poor and down trodden people. He was the architect of the reservation policy for the ‘Other Backward Castes’ (OBC)... in his death, the country has lost a politician, a nationalist and a true leader” Sankaranarayanan said in a condolence message. In a separate condolence message, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said “His (VP Singh) integrity was in full display and could never be questioned. In his death, the country has lost a true leader, the champion of the weaker sections of the society and a distinguished statesman,” Rio said. Govt declares 7-day State mourning The State government has announced a state mourning for seven days with effect from Nov 27 to Dec 3, on account of the death of former Prime Minister V.P. Singh. State chief secretary Lalhuma in a notification stated that during the 7-day mourning, the National Flag will be flown at half mast. There will also be no official entertainment during this period, the notification added.
