Government to enhance scholarship for disabled

Proposal for creation of 8 DPOs, establishment of ICDS projects Department of social welfare informed that rate of assistance, pension to disabled persons/senior citizens was proposed to be enhanced from the existing rate of Rs.100 to Rs.200 per beneficiary. Scholarship to disabled students was proposed to be enhanced from the existing rate of Rs.35-50 p.m to Rs.150 p.m, and rate of nutrition programmes increased from Rs. 2.50 to Rs.6.00. The Central Government has also enhanced the rate of honoraria for the Anganwadi workers and helpers. This was informed during the 16th officers’ conference of the social welfare department held Thursday at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. Parliamentary secretary, social welfare, women and child development, Chotisüh Sazo addressing the conference said the department had proposed the central government for creation of eight posts of district programme officer (DPO) and the establishment of three new Integrated Child Development Scheme ICDS projects, and requested the ministry to relax the ban on purchase of vehicles and for provision of fund for construction of office building for CDPOs. Depending on availability of funds, the department was proposed to set up Recreational Centres for senior citizens in all district hqs in a phased manner. The department at present has taken up schemes in association with NGOs for running of vocational centres for disabled and old age homes. Three Eklavya Model Residential Schools (in Tizit, Tuensang and Diphupar) are being taken by the department over the years, funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs under Art 275 (1).
