The news item "Neglected weighs down Kiphire's police" carried in the local paper on November 29 has drawn the glare of the public. The magnitude of the issue in Kiphire is serious and therefore it cannot be shelved in the cold storage.
The unfortunate episode of the police system in Kiphire and immense problems faced by the police personnel and their families is a classic case of apathetic attitude and negligence displayed by the NPF/DAN government. "Nero is fiddling while Rome is being" is a maxim that aptly explains the indifferent mentality of the concerned authority. In complete contrast to "serve others and not ourselves" the few priviledged people in power have chosen a high profile life and developed the habit of ignoring the multifarious problems faced by our people. The DAN government's failure of delivering basic amenities to the police in Kiphire is not an isolated case, it is happening in all the districts. The much touted police modernization crores pooled in for police upgradation and standardization except sipping in marginal drops are yet to be seen at the ground level. For Nagaland police the congress led UPA government has sanctioned crores for various programmes in the past several years and therefore, the public have every reason to know how these huge amount sanctioned have been spent by the government.
The DAN government and concerned authority have lost sight of the plight of the lower starta of government employees and common people and self aggrandizement and maximum comfort and luxury have become the order of the day. The recent illogical and wasteful expenditure on construction of DGP's palatial residence in terms of crore at the expense of side lining policing system in far flung area like Kiphire is anti-people and bad proposition.
Today rampant corruption and culture of have commission in the police department like that of Saijang issue (Peren district) is a clear indication of degradation of law and order situation in Nagaland.
Therefore, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) is of a strong view that the DAN government and concerned authority should come out from their senses and take immediate steps to institute a high level inquiry to go into the events of irregularities and lapses committed in Kiphire police set-up and fix responsibilities on the erring officials and people involved without delay if they really mean business.
