Greeting the people of Nagaland on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Statehood day on December 1, state Governor, K Sankaranarayanan said that peace which has been the most cherished goal for the State for all these years was more than a goal today. Amplifying that peace was a basic and fundamental right for all the citizens of the State, Sankaranarayanan stressed it was essential for growth and development. He called upon the people to ensure that they live in harmony with one another, have unity cutting across tribes and communities and to rise above narrow sectarian interests for a beneficial society. Emphasizing that unity would pave way for better social cohesion and harmony for rapid growth and economic development and a better future for the youth, he said it was reason enough “for all leaders to come together and join hands to foster the spirit of unity and brotherhood” he said. He also reminded that the Hornbill Festival was celebrated every year to commemorate the Statehood and resolve to preserve distinct culture and traditions and ensure participation in the Indian Union’s march towards growth and development. He said the day was also an occasion to reflect on the journey of the last four and a half decades and to set an agenda for the future. He acknowledged the architects of the State who strived hard to create a state that reflected the aspirations and the identity of the people. The Governor exuded confidence that people would come together and overcome all obstacles and realize the vision of a vibrant and economically developed Nagaland that the founding fathers of the State had dreamed of. He also condemned terror attacks in various parts of the country and lauded the bravery of the security men who fought terrorists.
