Elephant rampage continues, two killed

A herd of wild elephants that continued to wreak havoc in Yanmhon old village and Bhandari area under Wokha district bordering Assam have claimed two lives. Two labourers belonging to Advisi community and a resident of Yanmhon area, Borli Orang and Belkha Orang were killed on November 18 and 29. The labourers were working for Asian Oilfields service Ltd where seismic survey under Yanmhon area was being undertaken. The project work have come to a standstill as labourers continue to live under fear psychosis. According to Yanmhon Area Public Organisation (YAPO) chairman Khonmbemo Jami, the wild elephants damaged paddy fields, fishery ponds, including government buildings, community properties and private houses. It had appealed the state government, especially the chief Wild Life Warden Dimapur to take up immediate course of action by visiting the accident spots and to compensate the family members of the two killed.
