Khrietuo wins Naga wrestling

Jotsoma wrestler Khrietuo Nagi on Friday defeated Thupukhayi Chükhama from Sakraba, Phek, and became the champion of the Hornbill Naga Style Wrestling. The final competition of the wrestling was held here at the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama. While Khrietuo Nagi and Thupukhayu competed for the first position, Keyugum Dwaswang and Diethometuo competed for the third position, where Keyugum emerged as the winner and Diethometuo was ultimately placed in the fourth position. Parliamentary secretary, Law and Justice, Art and Culture, Tourism, Yitachu gave away certificates and cash prizes to the winners. The Hornbill Naga Style Wrestling, which commenced Thursday morning, started with 16 wrestlers from Angami, Zeliang and Chakhesang tribes. Meanwhile, the major and much awaited event of the Hornbill Festival, the ‘Korean-Naga Style Wrestling Exhibition’ was also held at Heritage Village, Kisama, where wrestlers from Nagaland and Korea exhibited their skills in traditional wrestling before a crowd of cheering spectators. During the wrestling exhibition, the Korean team outshined the Naga wrestlers in both the Korean style of wrestling and Naga wrestling style. The Korean wrestlers also demonstrated some techniques of the Korean style of wrestling. Coordinator of the Korean Team, Victor Kim commented that there were many similarities as well as differences between the Naga and Korean style of wrestling, and that they were learning many new techniques. The Korean wrestling team included former Korean wrestling champion Lee Hun Hee; bronze medalist Shin Won Kook; Kim Jong Woon, referee, Hur Young, coach, and the coordinator of the team, Victor Kim.
