‘Role of HG is more of sacrificial service’

Parliamentary secretary for prisons, home guards, fire and emergency services, Er. W Kithan said the role of home guards was more of sacrificial and dedicatory than any other services. The role of home guards was to serve as an auxiliary to the police in maintenance of internal security and emergency situations including earth quake, fire, flood and other natural calamities, he said. He was addressing the closing function of annual professional week-cum- Raising Day of Nagaland Central Training Institute (CTI), Civil Defence and Home Guards (CD and HG) at Toluvi, Dimapur Stressing on the growing importance and dependence on home guards he said civil defense organisation was based primarily on voluntary enlistment, and their service was however utilized by the government. Parliamentary secretary was all praise for home guards, when he said they had been rendering yeoman service to the people of the state by performing duties with equal ease and dedication in static, traffic and other law and order related duties. Further he said the services of home guards were found satisfactory and very valuable, and expressed hope that they would continue their dedicated services. Earlier, delivering welcome address commandant CTI, CD and HG Toluvi, N Itoshe Kibami pointed out that the main objectives of competing in professional events was mainly to enhance the professional skills of the volunteers so that they could react professionally during emergencies. Distribution of prizes for the professional and sport events, participated by the home guard personals, also marked the celebration. Director’s commendations certificate was awarded to Dimapur district commandant, S Rotokha Zhimomi while director general’s appreciation certificate was awarded to company commander, Y Khenito Chishi and SI, G Jakhalu. Meanwhile, football champion was awarded to CTI, volleyball champion to Dimapur district, best discipline and overall champion in professional events was awarded to Kohima district.
