Nine bands to contest for finals

Nine bands - The Verbs (Meghalaya), OFF (Nagaland), Diatribe (Nagaland), Eximious (Nagaland), Maestro (Assam), Northwind (Tura, Meghalaya), 24x7 (Pune, Maharastra), Alien Gods (Arunachal Pradesh) and Melodrama (Nagaland) have been selected to battle at the grand finals of the "Hornbill National Rock Contest, 2008" Sunday, 5 p.m. at local ground , Kohima. Altogether nineteen music bands are participating in the national level music contest. The judges for the competition include Dr. Wabang, Wenyitso Kapfo, Wati and Keith Wallang. AIRTEL, sponsoring the 1st Prize worth Rs. 5 lakhs was given the privilege of presenting the event as the "AIRTEL presents Hornbill National Rock Contest 2008". The second prize worth is Rs. 1.50 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh for the third prize. The individual prizes are Rs.25, 000 each including best vocalist, guitarist, drummer and bassist. On Saturday night renowned Indian rock band "Parikrama" took the stage, while Nagaland's achieving bands Devine Connection and XTC also performed for the night which enthralled the jam-packed crowds. The Hornbill Music Festival is an integral event of the Hornbill Festival 2008, organized by Music Task Force (YRS), Nagaland. The production and events is managed by XL. Meanwhile, state minister for planning and coordination, veterinary and animal husbandry, evaluation, T.R. Zeliang would be the chief guest for grand finale. (Correspondent)
