State governor, K. Sankaranarayanan Monday called upon Bharat scouts and guides to be role models and observe the cardinal principals of the "Scouts and Guides movement." In doing so, he said scouts and guides should attain their vision statement for the Year 2013 to be "self reliant, value based, quality oriented, well managed and offering innovative challenging programme based on the needs of the young people." Addressing the Rajya Puraskar Award ceremony of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) at Raj Bhavan, governor urged Nagaland Bharat Scouts and Guides to strengthen their organization in the interior districts and work in close coordination with the education department and the district administration. He also exhorted them to get involved in community activities and get trained in first aid and in disaster management. Dwelling on three cardinal principles of the organization "Duty to God, Duty to Others and Duty to Self," governor maintained that those principles would contribute to character building and inculcating ethics and values in students and society. He further added that such principles would enhance the personality of scouts and guides and build responsible citizens for tomorrow. Altogether 115 students (62 scouts and 53 guides) from seven districts were awarded with Rajya Puraskar Award. Rajya Puraskar Award is the highest Scouts and Guides Award in the State level. A student undergoes 2 years and 9 months of tests and trainings to get the award. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by headquarters commissioner, Povotso Lohe; introductiory speech by state chief commissioner, NBSG, K. Peseyie followed by entertainment presented by scouts and guides. NBSG vice president, Khyomo Lotha chaired the programme.
