Shillong is all set to rock as White Lion arrived on Tuesday to per-form for their ‘Return of the Pride’ concert on December 13.
Famous for their song 'When the children cry', White Lion, a popular American-Danish will roar up together on the same platform with another international rock band, Fire House at Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex, Shillong. The rock concert is billed as the mother of all concerts in the country.
The Fire House band members are expected to arrive Shillong on December 11. This is the second coming for the band Firehouse to Shillong as they had played in the same venue 4 years ago at the same date (December 13) in front of a record 35,000 fans. All the five band members, including White Lion's frontman Mike Tramp landed at the Advanced Landing Ground in Upper Shillong.
The concert has been dubbed as the mother of all rock concerts in India, since it is for the first time that two internationally renowned bands Firehouse and White Lion are going to perform in Shillong.
In an interview with Nagaland Post here, Tramp said he chose Shillong because they have heard from friends that northeast is the rock capital of India.
Here's an excerpt from the interview:
NP: What have you heard about Shillong so far?
Mike: Well we have only heard so much, but we have heard is very, very positive. Being from the Western world, I think we have a set view on India and how it is always portrait in movies. But our promoter told us that the north east is a lot different from what we have heard and seen in movies and television, so we are very excited to actually experience it in real life.
NP: This would be your first tour to India. How excited are you about coming to India? Why did White Lion choose this mountainous state of Meghalaya rather than metro cities in India?
Mike: I have sort of answered that already, but. We didn't choose anything, we were offered the great chance of playing big country in the world which we have never played and never through we would play. And that is a great honour for us to be able to add the Great country of India to places where White Lion has performed. By the time we leave India we will know a lot more about your country
NP: Have you heard about the people of Shillong? If yes, from whom?
Mike: I think the fans has spoken out id and clear with the success of TNT magazine selling more copies than ever with White Lion on the cover and our promotional CD almost selling 70,000 copies.
NP: What's your live set-up going to be like when you perform over here?
Mike: We want to give the fans the songs they live, so set will be very different from what we play other places in the world. I think we will be very relaxed and have fun with the people.
NP: What are your expectations from the Shillong concert?
Mike: A lot smiling faces and a lot of people singing along.
NP: You have a huge fan following in India. Is there any message you'd like to give your fans here?
Mike: We didn't know we had that till three months ago, we didn't think anyone know us in India, but now we know, and now we will return it with coming there and play the music the fans love. I also think it will be the beginning to a very special friendship between White Lion and the people of India, specially, in Shillong.
NP: Your Indian tour will be part of the world tour of "Return of the Pride"
Mike: It is the final two shows of a year for touring the world. By the time we play the last song we have visited 34 countries in 2008.
