WASA sports meet begins at Sechü

The 48th Sports Meet of Western Angami Sports Association (WASA) began Thursday at Sechü, Zubza with Dr. Neikesalie (Nicky) Kire, MLA and Chairman of Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries as the chief guest. Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr. Nicky Kire called upon the players to take sports on professional line and encouraged them to take sports with dedication, discipline. He encouraged the players to maintain sporting spirit to excel in district level, state level, north east and national level. He acknowledged the organizers for permitting a player to take part in only three events and reminded the players that no one could become a master in all fields for which he urged them to select their talented field. He also expounded on the importance of daily exercise for physical stamina and physical endurance to be a good sportsperson. He lamented the habits of the Nagas particularly the Angamis for celebrating in a wrong way after winning a game and even in times of losing by using alcoholic drinks. The Chief Guest also donated a sum of Rs. 20,000/- to the organizers. The inaugural match men’s volley ball was played by Group B and Group D. Different villages from Western Angami region which is divided into four groups are participating in the three day meet. The events include men’s football, men’s and women’s volley ball, women’s Sepatakraw, race, discuss throw, javelin throw, shot put, high jump, long jump etc. The closing function would be held on December 13 at 2:00 pm with Kovi Meyase, Revenue officer Kohima as the guest of honour. The inaugural function was chaired by WASA president Dovo Chase; invocation prayer by Kekhriengulie Kuotsu, pastor of Sechü Zubza Baptist Church; special song by WA ‘D’ SA; welcome note delivered by Khrielievi Chüsi, finance secretary WASA; and oath taking administered by Vitsalhu Kesiezie, games & sports secretary WASA.
