Militant killed, IRB injured in gun fight

A militant suspected to be a member of the KCP was killed while one security personnel wounded in an offensive launched by the police commandos at Arong Khodrak area near the Loktak lake this afternoon, an official said. The gun battle which started at around 1pm lasted till around 3.30 pm took place when a team of police commandos intruded the area located at the border between Imphal west and Bishnupur districts mostly dominated by militants, reports said. One small arm (9mm pistol loaded with some ammunition) was recovered from the slain suspected KCP militant, police said. The wounded personnel belonged to the 1st IRB who was attached to the police commandos. He reportedly received one bullet injury and out of danger, the police said. The police commandos intruded into the area in a follow up action to the rescue of an engineer of the state Irrigation and Flood Control Department, IFCD who was abducted by suspected KCP militants , the report said. The engineer identified as one Mayengbam Surchandra was rescued by a team of the police commandos yesterday at Takhel area in Imphal east. A highly reliable source close to police said that one or two cadres of a group of KCP nabbed during the rescue operation. Today's offensive at Arong Khordrak area has been conducted following the disclosure made by the nabbed cadre(s), the source believed. Concerned SP could not contacted for comments.
