Eastern army chief visits Nagaland

Eastern army commander, Lt.Gen. V K Singh, accompanied by his wife, president AWWA, eastern command, Bharti Singh visited Nagaland on November 18 and 19. General, during his visit interacted with state governor, K Sankaranaraynan and state chief minister, Niephiu Rio, a defense release said Wednesday. The commander was briefed about the security and various other issues by IGAR (north) at Kohima, commander 5 sector (Assam Rifles) at Chieswema and commander 7 sector (Assam Rifles) at Tuensang, the release said, adding, AWWA president also interacted extensively with the families in various formations of IGAR (north). The general and his wife was received at Kohima helipad by lt gen Rakesh Loomba, GOC 3 Corps and Maj Gen Jai Prakash Nehra, IGAR(north) and was accorded a traditional welcome. The visiting dignitaries also paid their homage to the heroes at the Kohima War Cemetery and also visited Kisama Heritage village, the site of the Annual Hornbill Festival, before returning back to Kolkata. General lauded the efforts of the security forces in the state and directed them to remain ever vigilant to respond effectively to any eventuality. He further stressed upon the need to ensure that maximum possible support was provided to local people by SF and that developmental efforts in the form of Military Civic Action (MCA) projects be planned and executed and reach large number of beneficiaries, the release asserted. Eastern army chief specifically complimented 164 Naga TA battalion and 13 Assam Rifles for putting up excellent performance in showcasing the rich culture, ethnicity and traditional values of the state, the release stated.
