Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) organized protest rally and demonstration march against the alleged unilateral decision of the Sate government in enhancing the retirement age of government employees, in Kohima on Wednesday. Hundreds of students from various institutions took part in the march from NSF office to New Secretariat complex, raising slogans and carrying placards such as “We demand length of service,” “no job consecutive for three years is not justified,” “please retire after 33 years in service,” “review the decision,” “grandpa and grandma, give us chance to serve you” and “involve youth to be part of system. Don’t disregard them.” Meanwhile, the NSF presidential council meeting was held in the afternoon at NSF conference hall, Naga Club Building, attended by federating units of NSF. Sources said the next course of agitation could be picketing of the New Secretariat complex, starting next week. Earlier, addressing the students outside the NSF office, NSF president Imchatoba Imchen appealed to the government for review of length of service of government employees. NSF general secretary Hetoi Chishi said that unless the government reviewed the length of service, there would be no post creation. Former NSF president Pushika Awomi said the younger generation was capable of taking decisions and urged the parents and elders to give chance to the youth. “It is high time the government listened to the rights of the youth,” he said. Former general secretary, NSF, Neizokhotuo Belho called upon the students to join hands to fight for their rights.
