Students held for stealing question papers

Six students of standard VIII and IX who attempted to pass their examinations the easy way out by stealing question papers, were arrested by Kohima police on Saturday. Sources said the six students broke into the office of the headmaster of Holy Family School, AG Colony, forced open the lockers and made off with question papers of the ongoing Class IX (final) and Class VIII (ESL) examinations conducted by Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Friday around 11-12 p.m. According to sources, the students who were also appearing the Board exams, climbed the fence of the school, broke into the principle’s room and stole the question papers of Class VIII and Class IX, which were kept in lockers. As soon as the burglary was detected Saturday morning, the school authority made enquiries and also informed police, and later six students including two girls were arrested by police. Out of the six students, five were from Holy Family School while another was reportedly studying in Mezhür Higher secondary School. Police carried out finger print tests of the accused and later conducted raids in the residences of the students and recovered the question papers. The six arrested were kept under custody at South Police Station for further investigation, sources added. Exams as per schedule Meanwhile, NBSE chairman Nini Meru in a press release appreciated the police for their prompt action in arresting the culprits and recovering the question papers. Informing that the examinations would continue to be held as per schedule, the NBSE chairman also said the students involved in the incident would be debarred from appearing in the examinations. She also said “departmental and legal action” would be taken against the guilty students.
