In a sudden and unexpected move, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has called off its indefinite picketing of the Secretariat office and instead announced a 12-hour bandh on December 1, preceded by a ban on movement of all government vehicles on November 28. The decision was arrived at following a meeting of NSF officials with government representatives led by the Home minister Wednesday afternoon and an emergency consultative meeting of the NSF alongwith its federating units later in the evening. The Home minister had reportedly assured to consider the demand of the NSF for fixation of length of service of government employees. NSF president Imchatoba Imchen told this correspondent that the Federation had decided to call a 12-hour bandh on December 1, and a ban on movement of all government vehicles on November 28, as continuation of its agitation. However, NSF sources disclosed that the proposed December 1 bandh would be decided after November 28. Other details relating to the consultative meeting of the NSF which concluded late night, were awaited at the time of filing this report.
