State chief minister, Neiphiu Rio and Bishop, Jose Mukala have extended warm Christmas greetings and wishes for the New Year. Rio on behalf of the government made an appeal to let the Christmas season bring out the best in everyone and bring the Naga people closer to one another enabling them to glorify God. Stating that the government could only give external peace through worldly materials and all round developmental activities, Rio said it was only Jesus who could give “internal peace”. He said the season was the most appropriate time for the Nagas to forgive and reconcile and share the love of Christ. “We don’t find peace in our hearts because we do not forgive others” he stated. He wished the people of Nagaland a blessed Christmas and a peaceful prosperous New Year.Mukala in his message said that Christmas was knocking this year with a cry of pain than with a glee of joy and peace. He however said the cry was a call to all to do certain things so that joy and peace might find a place “in us and in the world”. He said the annual celebration of Christmas was a reminder that “God is with us” and an assurance that justice would flourish and peace would not fail. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Peace and Joy filled New Year, 2009.
