Bangladesh-based militant arrested

A Bangladesh-based militant of A'chik National Security Defence (ANSD) wanted for several crimes in Meghalaya, was arrested from Borsora area near the Indo-Bangla border, police said today. Simiong Sangma, an ANSD cadre was arrested at Borsora area in West Khasi Hills district while extorting money from coal exporters. Based on specific information, district superintendent of police M Kharkrang said Sangma a resident of Sibur village in Bangladesh had illegally entered Indian territory with the intention to extort money from coal exporters. Kharkrang said the militant confessed he was sent to Borsora by ANSD Chief Marcus Sangma to extort money from coal exporters. Borsora, the second coal trading point between India and Bangladesh, about 200 km from Meghalaya's state capital, Shillong, also known as the hotbed of LAEF and NSCN (IM), besides the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council, has its base in Bangladesh.
