Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) Saturday reiterated its stand to the Manipur government on the issue of affiliation of all the private schools in Naga inhabited areas under the four Hill districts of Manipur saying that the preference of a community or an individual for affiliation of educational institution to a certain board was a free choice. NSF president Imchatoba Imchen stated this at the inaugural function of the Tungjoy Youth and Students’ Organization (TYSO) Golden Jubilee celebration at Tungjoy as the guest of honour. Among those present was Minister for Education, Transport and Sericulture Manipur Jayantakumar Singh who was the chief guest on the occasion. Imchatoba pointed out that there were many institutions in Nagaland affiliated to different boards and universities in the country. NSF was compelled to take up the initiative since 2005 as Nagas living in the four Hill districts of Manipur were imposed with compulsory foreign language –Meitei language starting from Class III onwards. In his speech, the chief guest and Minister for Education, Transport and Sericulture Manipur Jayantakumar Singh chose not to take up issue on the matter but preferring to restate that the Manipur government was trying to bring certain changes in the educational system in the state. He disclosed that the state government has earmarked a sum of Rs.10 crore for improvement of infrastructures in educational institutions of the hill districts of Manipur from 2007. He also called for communal harmony among the Meitei and the Nagas adding “we should live together and excel together”.
