Out Patient Department (OPD) at JN Hospital, Imphal, the biggest state run hospital closed down Saturday causing immense difficulty for people as districts level hospitals, primary and community health centres followed suit demanding the government to implement revised sixth pay. OPD would remain closed till December 30, stated hospital officials, saying it has been taken up as a part of support to the ongoing cease-work strike of the employees of the Manipur government under the banner of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC), an apex body of the various unions of the government employees. “OPDs would open from December 31 for three days but if the state government does not respond to the demands of the JAC within the period, OPDs would be closed for another three days from January 2 onwards, and inpatients discharged from January 5”said the employees, adding “There would be no admission of new patients to the hospital wards. However, casualty and emergency services would remain open”.
