Bike-A-Thon motorcycle rally for peace

In an effort to spread the message of peace and harmony in the insurgency infested Northeast region, and to mark its golden jubilee celebration, motorcycle rally, " Hero Honda Bike-A-Thon: Peace Motor Cycle Rally" organized by 14 Assam Rifles was flagged off at Kohima on Sunday. The motor rally consists of 16 jawans hailing from different parts of the country led by Captain R.P.Raju of the 14 AR on 8 CBZ Extreme motor cycles was flagged off by Maj.Gen J.P.Nehra, IGAR (N) at 26 AR Konyak Park, Kohima. In his brief address before flagging off the rally, General Nehra congratulated the 14 AR for their venture in spreading the message of peace and harmony among the people in concurrence with the Assam Rifle motto "Friends of the Hill People". Terming the rally as a good venture, he also encouraged the force to carry out such yeomen venture. Meanwhile, in Imphal the rally which was flagged off by Salam Joy Singh, MLA of Wangoi Assembly constituency on Saturday reached Nagaland on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion Singh said, ''we may belong to different regions, religions and culture but we are one and Indian, we all should come together to bring peace and prosperity in our country and especially in Manipur.'' The MLA also presented a sum of Rs 10,000 to the rally team, wishing success in their mission. The motor cycles were sponsored by Hero Honda Motors Ltd while Indian Oil Corporation sponsored 500 litres of petrol for the rally. The rally was initially flagged off by Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar from Tripura on December 19 last and after covering Mizoram, part of Assam and Manipur arrived at the state capital here last evening, after covering a distance of 1200 Kms. The rally will cover all the major cities and towns in the Northeast such as Agartala, Aizawl, Silchar, Imphal, Kohima, Dimapur, Gauhati and Shillong before culminating at Kanchanpur after covering a distance of 2100 Kms within a span of 16 days on January 4 next. In Dimapur, the motor rally would be flagged off by Brig Pramond Behl at Assam Rifle Training Centre and School, Sukhovi on Monday morning.
