FIFA’s Football Academy to come up in B’lore

Soccer in Karnataka will get a boost when Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) sponsored Football Academy comes up here. The foundation stone will be layed in January with Union Minister Praful Patel participating in the function. The Rs three-crore project would be completed in 12 to 15 months time, All India Football Federation (AIFF) Vice President A R Khaleel told UNI. He said the Academy would be of international standard and even foreign coaches and players selected by FIFA will be trained at the Academy. Mr Khaleel said the project was taken up under FIFA’s Goal Project II. Under Goal Project I, ‘Football House’ a sophisticated Academy, was built at Dwaraka in New Delhi and the Bangalore project sanctioned was under an agreement with State Association contributing Rs one crore, AIFF Rs 54,000 and FIFA funding the balance. He said ‘’the eight-year struggle has finally fructified. Since 2001, I have been fighting for setting up of Football Academy to give a boost to Football in the State. ‘’We have already deposited with FIFA our share. FIFA has already completed tender process and the construction work would begin immediately after laying of foundation stone,’’ he added.
