An Assamese boy who helped in reporting the rape case of Assamese girl in Gurgaon on December 30 last is reportedly under threat from a gang of the rapists. According to a press release issued by the North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESC&H) New Delhi, Spokesperson, Madhu Chandra, the boy, a momo supplier by profession who reported the rape case to the NESC&H was abducted by a gang on the evening of January 1 and taken to the same house where the alleged rape took place. He was later released with dire consequences if he failed to bring the victim and withdraw the case against the rapists by next day. After the panic stricken boy reported the threat to the NESC&H yesterday morning, a delegation of human rights activists and civil society led by Dr. John Dayal, Member of National Integration Council and founding patron of NESC&H, filed a complaint against the “goons of rapists” at Gurgaon Sector 40 Police Station and later met Mahendra Lal, Commissioner Police of Gurgaon. Dr. John Dayal said, “Life for the outsiders, particularly of North Eastern girls, in Gurgaon, has become very unsafe” and appealed the Commissioner to take up the matter with his subordinate police officers. The NESC&H noted that lodging complaint at local police stations has become very difficult, particularly when the victims were from North East communities. The NESCH&H cited a recent case where a rape was attempted upon two North East girls at Sikanderpur, at the wee hours on December 13. According to the press release, the girls were molested and severely beaten to yield to sexual favour demanded by their landlord and his companion. “The oral complaint filed by the girls in hospital bed was manipulated by Sub-Inspector Mr. Aberaj and tempered the lines of their written complaints” the release added. Meanwhile, India Today earlier reported that one Bodo girl who was on the look out for a job was allegedly raped by one Manish in Sikandarpur, Tuesday last. She was forced to consume liquor, shown vulgar videos, stripped and photographed then raped. The delegation was represented by Dr. John Dayal, Advocate Lansinglu Rongmei President, Madhu Chandra Spokes Person, members Dr. Alana Golmei and Ms. Mandali of NESC&H. NESC&H ( is a combined initiative of various human rights activists, social workers, students, journalists and lawyers seeking to prevent harassment and abuses meted out to women, North East People and tribal communities of different states.
