Lieut. Gen. P. Mohapatra, Signal Officer-in-Chief and Colonel Commandant of Corps of Signals, is on a visit to Manipur and Nagaland from January 5 to 7.
According to a defence release, during his visit, the Signal Officer-in-Chief is scheduled to meet Lieut. Gen. RK Loomba, General Officer Commanding, 3 Corps and other formation commanders where he would review operational preparedness and efficacy of military communication infrastructure in 'Corps Zone' to support network centric operations.
An alumnus of NDA and DSSC, general officer had an illustrious career spanning over three decades and tenanted some very prestigious command and staff appointments.
He has commanded an Armoured Divisional Signal Regiment and was Chief Signal Officer of a strike Corps during 'Operation Parakram' and has considerable operational experience having participated in 'Operation Hifazat' in Nagaland and 'Operation Rakshak' (J&K) during extremely critical phase of insurgency.
He also held the coveted appointment of Additional Director General of Signal Intelligence and Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff till July 2008 before taking over the present appointment.
Several projects including communications for Tactical battle area, Mobile cellular communication system and laying of large quantum of Optical Fibre Cable are under progress.
