144 Cr. PC along Assam’s borders with AP, Nagaland

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 Cr.PC reinforcing night curfew from 6 p.m to 6 a.m has been promulgated along Assam border of Sivasagar district touching Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. An official bulletin said that the additional district magistrate, Sivasagar, M. Gogoi issued the promulgation order prohibiting the movement of any person/group of persons/any vehicular traffic in the 5 km belt in Assam falling in Sivasagar district to detect any suspicious movement of anti-social elements who may indulge in unlawful acts resulting in injury/loss of human lives/extortion/destruction of national properties in the bordering areas of the mentioned states. The order has been in force since December 18 and shall continue to remain in force for a period of 60 days, i.e upto February 11. However, security personnel including Army/CRPF/Police and Civil officials deployed on duty have been exempted from the purview of the prohibitory order. It may be recalled, that security agencies had been alerted on movement of various insurgent outfits in the border areas following arrest of some armed cadres.
