Water supply to Mon town restored

Water supply to Mon town which was disrupted since July 23, 2008 was restored after a gap of five months on December 15. According to PHED Executive Engineer (EE), Mon, J. Mayangshashi Amer the main pipeline measuring 150mm along with suspension steel bridge over Talem River was washed out by flood and the department could not provide any fund to repair the damaged pipeline due to financial constraints. PHED executive engineer in a press statement said that MLA and DC looking at the rigorous hardship extended held and solved the "deadlock" problem, with the tireless effort of PHE department officials by constructing wooden structure over Talem River and laying the pipe line. In this connection, PHED Mon has lauded MLA 45 Tehok A/C and chairman DPDB, Mon, C.L John and DC Mon, Dinesh Kumar for allotting emergency fund to the tune of Rs. 1.50 lakh from their personal discretion and restoring water supply to Mon town. Further, the statement asserted that though the restoration was purely a temporary measure it has relieved department as well as public by overcoming water problem during festive season.
