Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee Monday disqualified Janata Dal-United (JD-U) MP P.P. Koya from the house for violating his party’s whip. Koya had voted in favour of the the Manmohan Singh government in the July 22 trust vote against the party’s diktat. He was disqualified under the anti-defection law. Soon after Koya flouted the party whip, he was suspended by the party. The JD-U, headed by former union minister Sharad Yadav, earlier expelled Ram Swarop Prasad from Nalanda, Bihar, for defying the party whip to vote against the government. Koya, who defeated Congress leader P.M. Sayeed in the last Lok Sabha elections from Lakshadweep constituency, has joined the NCP.
