Saramati range likely to be declared reserved

Bio diversity conservation campaign in the state is all set for a major boost with the entire Saramati Range likely to be declared as Reserved Area during the later part of this month. A final decision to this effect is likely to be taken during a public meeting of the representatives of all the 19 villages settling on the range, scheduled to be held on January 29 at Pungro town. According to a NEPED official, the same initiative taken by the people inhabiting the range was going on in good progress though the final decision was kept for the representatives of the 19 villages. Saramati Range situated on the fringe of Indo-Myanmar border presently located in Kiphire district is known for its rich bio-diversity. The range is inhabited by Yimchunger tribe which consists of 19 villages including: Thanamir; Vongtsuvong; Tsundang; Fakim; Sangtsung; Penkim; Salumi; Luthur; Iponger; Zaonger; Pokphur; Longkhimong; Khongjiri; Lopfukhong; Mimi; Matenkhong; Hakkomute; Khongkha and Khuong. The famous “Fakim Wild Life Sanctuary” is also situated on the Saramati Range.
