Nagaland University vice chancellor, Prof. K. Kannan Saturday said crores of rupees were spent outside the state for children's education, even more than what the state spends per year to run the state. By going to other places to study “you cannot bring development in Nagaland," he said. Exhorting the students of Tetso College during its 15th scholastics day as chief guest, Kannan said, "all of you have to develop for Nagaland, not run away from here." He said as a university, Nagaland University has been trying to provide immense facilities, which the students were not even aware of it, but Kannan felt that students were not ready to take up courses that were available to them. "The biggest and strange problem is that children have talent but cannot express, they are either repressed or unresponsive," Kannan said while maintaining that conventional style of examination and evaluation was not going to make progress in education. Divulging on the issue that prior to opening of school of engineering there were many hue and cry raised, Kannan said even after the school of engineering was established only 76 students could enroll because other students could not fulfill the criteria of attaining 45 percentage to get admission. "We should be concerned and ask why our children are evaluated very strictly…as a society we have to ask why children are going away other places when the facilities are available here," he said. Prize distribution for outstanding students in the field of music, sports and literary competition were given away by Prof. Kannan and college principal, Dr. P.S Lorin. Other highlights of the programme included cultural show and special song by E.U Tetso College.
