State U-16 to mee Punjab in final Dimapur, Dec 17 (NPN): State under-16, Wednesday entered the final of the 1st National level championship (under-16 tournament) after defeating Mizoram 2-0, played at Punjab. The team will now take on the host Punjab for the title clash on Thursday. The state team maintaining their winning steak thrashed Mizoram, with goals from Anato and Chubasunep in the semifinal match. Earlier, in the quarterfinal match the team defeated defending champions Orrisa 3-1. The goals were scored by Imtiwapang, Tingnyek and Anato. The lone goal for Orissa was scored only in the second half. On their way to final the team has defeated Arunachal Pradesh 6-0 and Delhi 5-0. With today’s victory the state team has scored 16 goals in their four matches and has conceded only one goal. The under-16 team is led by coach Mughato, who has also led the state under-14 team to clinch the Subroto Cup 2008, held at Delhi recently. NFA elects new team Dimapur, Dec 17 (NPN): Nagaland Football Association (NFA) has elected a new team of office bearers for the session 2008-2012, in its meeting held on December 5. The new team is headed by, P. Auto Mezhür as president, B.P. Hanghuh Konyak, Joseph Sumi, N. Bendang Jamir and Er. Chungmak Chang as vice presidents, K. Neibou Sekhose as secretary, Among Chang, Chempong Phom and Edward Ngullie as joint secretaries and Vandanshan Patton as treasurer. Thuvopisümi sports meet Dimapur, DEC 17 (NPN): NASA colony emerged as the overall champion in the recently concluded 37th Thuvopisümi sports meet. Football (men): Winner- Chazouba town, runners up- NASA colony. Volleyball Men: winner- NASA colony runners up- Tuzu colony Women: winner- NASA colony, runners-up Chozuba town Basketball Men: NASA colony, runners-up- Tuzu colony Women: NASA colony, runners-up- Kohima team. RYA sports festival DIMAPUR, DEC 17 (NPN): The 35th sports festival of Runguzumi Youth Association (RYA) was declared open December 10 at Cepi local ground by parliamentary secretary, social welfare, child and women development, Chotisuh Sazo. Addressing the inaugural function chief guest stressed on the importance of discipline and perseverance, which he maintained, was an integral part of a successful sportsperson, RYA president, Vetazo Vasa stated in a statement. Sazo pointed out three chief objectives of a sportsperson, and said it was important to keep ones body healthy, to earn fame and popularity and to take it as a profession. According to the release parliamentary secretary donated Rs. 30000 towards association, Rs. 5000 each to three participating colonies, Rs. 5000 to women cultural group, Rs. 5000 to Yithokhruyi and Party, Rs. 5000 to Runguzumi Baptist Church pastor and Rs. 2000 each to the oldest man and woman of the village. He also announced that he would construct a rostrum at local ground in honour of Padmashree. M.Vero. NASA sports meet concludes DIMAPUR, DEC 17 (NPN): 33rd Niuland Area Sports Association (NASA) Hovishe Memorial Trophy was concluded on December 9, at Kiyezu ‘A’ village. The closing ceremony was graced by Deepak Chakraborty , p.s to MLA Hewoto as guest of honour. He donated Rs 30,000 towards the NASA and Rs10,000 to the host village- Kiyezu-‘A’. NAMSA grateful Dimapur, Dec 17 (NPN): Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) the organizers of Hornbill Festival Motor Rally 2008, has lauded all those individuals and organizations for their contribution and support in making the rally a successful event. It may be mentioned that the Hornbill Festival Motor Rally 2008, was supported by government of Nagaland and sponsored by JK Tyre and industries ltd, India was held from December 4 to 5. Optimistic Club Kidima sports meet Kohima, Dec 17 (NPN) : The Optimistic Club Kidima will hold its 26th annual games and sports cum session on December 19 and 20 at Kidma village. The chief guest for the inaugural function on December 19 for games and sports will be by Neingu-o Zashiimo, president Southern Angami Sports Association(SASA) The speaker for the session on December 20 will be Ketholenuo Ltu , general secretary Kidima Women Organization Kohima (KWOK). All club members are requested to attend the function. Peren district open badminton tourney Dimapur, Dec 17 (NPN): The 3rd Peren district open badminton tournament was held at Tenning town Indoor Stadium on December 9, organized by WLEX Club, Tenning town. According to official bulletin, the inaugural function was graced by Zandi Domia and Junior Engineer, P. Chupha as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Altogether 19 teams participated in the doubles category, while in the singles event 23 players participated. The closing function was graced by pastor Tenning town, Kibobo, as the chief guest. He also gave away the prizes to the winners. In the singles category Kuthu emerged as the winner and recieved Rs. 5000, while the runners-up was bagged by Mosa who was awarded Rs. 2500. In the doubles category Ahing and Khagriang were declared the winners and were awarded Rs. 10000, while the runners-up was bagged by R.M. Kungdiang and Namsilung who were awarded Rs. 5000. Zenith volleyball tourney Dimapur, Dec 17 (NPN): The 6th Zenith Volleyball Open Tournament for men and women on the theme, ‘Smash out diversity, win convergence’ would be held from January 13 to 16, at Kezo-Town volley ground, Chakhabama. According to the organizers, the tournament carries a cash prizes Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 for the winners in men’s category while in women’s category the winner will receive Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 for the runners-up. All semifinalists will be awarded with cash along with certificates, besides individual prizes, the release said. The entry fee is Rs. 2000 for each participating team and the last date of submission of form is January 10.
