Grants for backward tribe

Department of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) will be providing special grants to 24 backward tribes students belonging to the tribes of Sangtam, Konyak, Yimchunger, Phom, Khiamniungan and Chang who have passed HSLC and HSSLC from schools located in the four districts of Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire. DUDA informed that special grants was effective from the current academic year and the grant meant for orphans or children of farmers, economically weak, children of fixed pay and work charge employees of state government may also apply. Candidates who are not under provisions need not apply, informed Mikha Lomi, Director in a release. DUDA also informed that candidates would be selected on merit basis with highest total aggregate marks. Eligible candidate have been informed to contact their respective tribal students union president for detailed information before January 30, 2009.
