Reacting to reports of possible outbreak of avian influenza in Dimapur, the district veterinary and animal husbandry officer, Dimapur, Dr. H Shohe has clarified that so far no samples taken from the State had tested positive. The veterinary officer said on Friday, the district veterinary department officials along with the secretary, Vety & AH, M Yanthan visited areas like Kachari Gaon, Dillai Gate, New Golaghat Road and Old Golaghat Road and interacted with the people and collected blood samples from these areas. Shohe said the death reports of chickens in these areas have been ascertained and on investigation, it was suspected that the deaths were caused by some other poultry diseases, which are highly common this time of the year. He however said samples had been sent to the animal disease diagnostic laboratory at Bhopal for actual confirmation of the disease. Meantime, the department requested all people to remain vigilant and inform any unusual death of chickens, ducks and other birds to the nearest veterinary hospital, dispensary, administrative officials, police or village authorities, and also comply to the orders issued by the district administration and other authorities from time to time. The department also requested media to confirm the reports from the department before publishing them.
