In what could be termed as a step towards ironing out differences between the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People's Front (UPF), a joint meeting of the two militant groups with the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) was held Friday at Imphal. KNO and UPF are the umbrella organizations of the 19 different Kuki based militant groups which are maintaining cease fire with the security forces. KNO is an umbrella organization of eight militant groups while there are 11 other groups under UPA. Today's meeting reviewed the progress of the survey for the site selection for opening designated camps and construction of the designated camps at the approved sites, official source said. The two militant groups' proposal for financial package was agreed upon by the government on the condition that the package would be paid only after the cadres lodge themselves at the designated camps. The meeting also discussed the violation of ceasefire ground rules by the militant outfits, the source added. The meeting was chaired by the principal secretary (home), DS Poonia, the chairman of the JMG. It was also attended by an official of the MHA besides the top leaders of the KNO and UPF and state police department who are the members of the JMG.
