Nagaland band in National rock finals

No takers for sponsoring theIR trip to Hyderabad 'Melodrama', a happening band from Nagaland formed recently in the year 2008 is all set to make state proud at the National Campus Rock Idols final to be held on February 7 at Hyderabad but unfortunately there are no takers for sponsoring their trip. In an exclusive interview with this reporter on Sunday, the band members between the age 18 and 22 while sharing their view about receiving aid, said the band despite winning major contests in the state as well as in national circuit earlier, the state government was yet to give any due recognition. Armed with numerous accolades within months of its formation, this band lined up by five members were of the view that they were the first from amongst the 'bands' selected basing on their performances from the initial auditions at Shillong and Kolkata and finally the national finals at 'Treasure Island' Gandhi Bed, Hyderabad, however, the state government need to further initiate the Music Task Force (MTF) in promoting music industry in the state under department of Youth Resources. Also sharing some of their poignant experiences during the initial auditions and zonal contest, the band members also said government must come forward like other states wherein the department themselves made preparations for their bands by soliciting sponsors and other allied agencies for a reputed contest like National Campus Rock Idol. Blended with sheer determination to win the national contest, the band members felt it would be a chance and also a platform for them to break the barriers of 'misconception' about Naga musicians prevailing in most states of mainland India through their performances at the contest. The band members would be on their way to the rock contest, sponsored by DNA Network on February 5 from Dimapur and thereafter fly to Hyderabad via Guwahati the following day. In spite of being selected to perform at the National Campus Rock Idol, Hyderabad, the band members' had to bear the travel expenses from their own pocket. Naga Idol'06 Moanungsang, when contacted by this reporter in regard to the young band representing the state at the national contest said “it is a proud moment not only for certain individual but Naga musicians in particular”, terming it as a "milestone achievement" at the same time reminisced at the past two to three years where there have been a tremendous change in the music industry. Also sharing his experiences with the band, Moanungsang said they had come a long way from the days of local contest to Hornbill, stating it was an achievement not only for the band but for the entire music industry in Nagaland and further hoped they would make the Nagas proud by clinching the title. It may be mentioned that after going through strenuous auditions for regional and also Eastern Zone competitions at Shillong and Kolkota they emerged as 1st runners-up and winner respectively. Melodrama, winner of the 4th Best of the Best Rock contest 2008 organized and sponsored by Mind Blowers Club (MBC) Dimapur, bagged the 1st runner-up title in Summer Jam 2008, 1st runner-up at Music Safari in Dimapur, winner of 'All Nagaland Best of the Best Open Beat Contest' and also the finalist in 'National Hornbill Rock Contest 2008'. The band members comprise of vocalist Imlinungsang Jamir, guitar and back-up Imnok, lead guitarist Among Jinger, bassist Sashimeren Pongen, and drummer Wapang Walling.
