Northeast Frontier Railway celebrated 60th R- Day

The 60th anniversary of the Indian Republic was celebrated at Maligaon where Ashutosh Swami, general manager Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) unfurled the national tricolour at the railway station and also inspected the guard of honour given by Railway Protection Force, Bharat Scouts and Guides and Civil Defence personnel. According to the press release, the general manager asked all railway employees to be more determined for achieving targets by overcoming the difficult situations through hard work and strict financial discipline. Some of the special highlights of NFR included running of special trains, long distance trains had been augmented by providing additional air condition coaches, essential amenities provided to 483 stations, high power locomotives like WDP-4 and WDG-4 were put into service for hauling 24 coach length trains, 16 train engines of the Lumding - Badarpur section had been made bullet proof and another 21 had been planned to made bullet proof shortly. The release added that Nitya Nanda Bora, driver who lost his life due to extremist attack on May 15, 2008 near Mupa station was awarded 'Kirty Chakra'. Further, a peace run was also held which was participated by all section of people including school children. The day concluded with distribution of fruits and sweets to the indoor patients of Railway Central Hospital, Maligaon.
