Farmers trained on mushroom cultivation

North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) Jorhat team Wednesday has assured to provide mushroom spawn production machinery to Yankey Multipurpose Society Limited (YMPSL), Wozhu Colony YMPSL 15-20 days. Once it is installed at Chukitong it would start production of mushroom spawn thereby offering self employment opportunity for school-dropouts and income generation avenues for farmers in the area. Dr Kanshilal, Dr R K Sharma, Dr. R K Adhikari, and Dr Bhattacharjee, all scientists from NEIST, Jorhat, Assam conducted a one-day training and demonstration on cultivation of mushroom was held at Chukitong under Wokha district at the office complex of YMPSL, Wozhu Colony.. Mushroom spawn/seeds were distributed by NEIST Jorhat team and vegetables seed like chilly, brinjal, bitter gourd, beans, cabbage, etc were distributed by the horticulture department to participants. Altogether 63 representatives from 10 villages participated in the training and demonstration programme. Organized by YMPSL in collaboration with NEIST and sponsored by state horticulture department, the training and demonstration programme was held to train and enlighten the farmers on how mushroom could be grown. Earlier, the short function before the commencement of the training was chaired by YMPSL chairman and former horticulture director YY Kikon. Dr. Elithung lotha, DHO Wokha delivered a short speech on behalf of the horticulture department and vote of thanks was proposed by retired agriculture officer and vice chairman of YMPSL, Remomo Kikon.
